How to Make a Translation of "Neuroscience: Science of the Brain"

1. The version I need is not listed.

To date, IBRO volunteers have made several language versions of this booklet. All completed translations are available directly from this website. If you think that your work as a public educator would benefit from a version in a language that is not listed here, we would like to know. Please tell us how it would be used. The IBRO Brain Campaign Committee will try to find translators.

2. I would like to volunteer to make a translation.

With a few exceptions, all the translations listed here have been made by volunteers. The IBRO Brain Campaign Programme is actively seeking people who are willing and able to make additional language versions.

This translation project is part of the IBRO contribution to the Brain Campaign. An initiative by IBRO, SFN, FENs, Dana and EDAB to improve public education on the Brain. "Neuroscience: The Science of the Brain" was originally published by the British Neuroscience Association in 2004. It contains a series of short chapters on different aspects of the brain and brain research. Each chapter is written by a neuroscientist prominent in the field. The booklet has been distributed to teenage school pupils in the United Kingdom, and the material is considered generally suitable for that age group and above.

If you agree to make a translation, it will be made widely available via the web for use in Brain Education activities. Individuals running such events will be allowed to download or print copies without charge. Given the scale of this project and the limited funds that we have at our disposal, it has not been possible for IBRO to promise to make payments for any of these translation. However we will acknowledge the incredible time, effort and contribution you have made to this project. In some cases the translations have been made by commercial organizations. In these cases, payment has been made by arrangement with local Neuroscience Associations. The costs are the sole responsibility of the local group.

If you agree to help us, you will be given access to the original material that is available (in Word format) for download from the web site. You will be asked to translate each individual page including text and graphics whilst maintaining the page layout as much as possible. You will then be required to make a PDF file of each page and return them to IBRO. We will then assemble the booklet and make it available on this website.
